Apple Intelligence is a Major Disappointment

Is this the best Apple can do? I know I’m a bit late to the party with this commentary, but I recently had to upgrade to an iPhone 16 Pro (RIP, iPhone XS), and I just have to say, Apple Intelligence is very underwhelming. For a company known for innovation, this feels like a weak attempt to slap AI into their products without actually pushing the boundaries of what AI can do. Instead of showcasing true advancements, the AI features seem more like minor conveniences rather than game changers. When AI is being used to solve complex problems and revolutionize industries, Apple’s use looks more like a glorified shortcut for everyday tasks.

It seems to celebrate laziness rather than productivity. Its focus is on tasks like rewriting texts and summarizing emails. I guess these are a little useful, but hardly groundbreaking. AI has the power to enhance creativity, streamline workflows, and unlock new possibilities, yet it seems that all Apple Intelligence is good for is to save users from typing a few extra words. At a time when AI is being used for everything from medical research to real-time data analysis, this feels like a massive, missed opportunity.

Maybe these are just Apple’s baby steps, but right now, it feels like they’re barely scratching the surface of what AI can do. On the other hand, if this is their big AI push, it’s not exactly inspiring confidence in their vision for the future. Apple has historically been a leader in redefining technology, but with this rollout, they seem to be playing it safe, if not outright behind the curve. AI should be about empowerment, not just convenience. Let’s hope they have something more substantial in store for the near future.

With a technology as advanced as AI, I feel like huge companies like Apple that don’t embrace it fully and even lead the charge through innovation, will fall behind quickly. Much like those companies that didn’t initially embrace the Internet and treated it as if it was just a trend. AI is definitely not just a “trend” and if Apple doesn’t do better than its most recent AI integration with their existing products then they too will end up like the Sears and Blockbusters of the corporate world.
